Myofascial Release

Fascia is the most underrated connective tissue in the whole body. Imagine heavy duty Saran Wrap enfolding every bundle of muscle and nervous tissue, connecting every bone, organ, and system of the body, in multiple layers, down to the cellular level. That's the fascia. Fascia should ideally slide and glide easily over bones, muscles, and organs.

Physical trauma, injury, surgery, etc. can cause restrictions. Because fascia is everywhere, a restriction in one area of the body can cause symptoms in seemingly unrelated areas.

This technique identifies restricted areas and releases the fascia through specific, gentle, sustained pressures.  Releasing fascial restrictions results in increased mobility, decreased pain, increased circulation, and improved postural symmetry, thereby improving the body's ease of movement and ability to freely function.

"I'm Glad I Chose Greater Brunswick Physical Therapy."
~ Donna Blanchette, Woolwich

Last October, Donna Blanchette was in a head-on collision that landed her inĀ  ICU for three days. Among her injuries were whiplash and a torn ligament in her ankle joint. Donna worked with Jen at Greater Brunswick Physical Therapy over a three month period. "I received both regular and aquatic therapy and I've gotten a lot farther along than I expected. The pool work took weight off my ankle and made it easier to exercise. Jen was always ready with alternative exercises if something was too painful. She and Emily make a great team. I continue to do the "homework" Jen gave me at the pool twice a week. I enjoy it — especially the hot tub afterward."
